PRESIDENT’S
MESSAGE
SNOW!!! Here we are, almost in March, and we get an inch and a half of snow. What a winter! I hope no one’s bird was damaged by the freezing weather. But it will soon be spring, so get ready. I just sent Gene a list of car—related events for 2010. It’s going to be the busiest year for them I have ever seen.
We have our March meeting March 6 at the Salt Lick next to Dell diamond. (I guess I’m just too old –the Salt Lick is Southwest of Austin. Or at least, it used to be the only one.) Then, April 17 is the joint meeting with the ATO’s at the Roberts ranch near Llano. The view off the porch is worth the trip. There ought to be some beautiful wild flowers with all the rain we have had. June 10 – 13 is the South Central Region Meet across from Texas Motor Speedway, with the Marriott Hotel as the host hotel. We aren’t doing anything in July or August due to the heat, and September 22 – 26 in Chicago is the VTCI International meet in Chicago. November 6 is the joint trip to the La Grange airport. December 4 is the Christmas party at the Roberts’ house. (I hope we don’t tire Tania out too much with two events.) So we have a full year without even considering the other events in the area. But we will miss a lot if we don’t. If 2 or 3 want to go to another event, let me or Gene know and we can put the information in the newsletter so we can do it together. This year you can have as much fun driving and showing your birds as you want.
Kim Sellers came through her operation in fine shape. We are all thankful for her. Hope to see her at the next meeting or so.
Enough for now.
Bob
From the keyboard of the VP
Well it
appears that the worst is over with the medical difficulties that Kim has been
experiencing with the dreaded cancer. I want to thanks all of my club members
for supporting us and that kindness will be repaid many time over.
So, I am
looking forward to spring and the chance to get on the road and enjoy the
friendship that comes with our membership in the CCTC. So from a safety aspect,
we need to check all fluids and pressures in our cars, check battery
connections for corrosion and make sure the fluid levels are correct. Have your
transmissions fluid and radiator checked for summer driving. Remember that a
50/50 mixture of water and anti-freeze is the best ratio for keeping the old
bird cool. Check your seat-belts to ensure good condition and please use them
if you have them, also make sure you have good wiper blades, just in case.
Thanks Again
Ron Sellers
The Monthly meeting of the Capital
City Thunderbird Club will be held March 6, 2010 at the Saltlick, at 3350 E.
Palm Valley Blvd, in Round Rock. This is located next to the Dell Diamond and
we will form up at 11:30 A.M.
Kim is doing
really well and hope she can make the lunch
Thanks Ron
Location: Jack Allen’s
Kitchen, Oak Hill TX
Time:
12:30 – 2:30 PM
Attendees:
Gene
& Barbara Clark Ron
& Kim Sellers
Bob
Roberts Guy
Saunders
Sid
& Sharon Sokol Buddy
& Doris Cox
Minutes:
·
President, Bob Roberts, called the
meeting to order.
·
Based on a question from Buddy Cox, Bob
Roberts and Gene Clark, gave a brief back ground on the history of CTCI and
VTCI and how we came to have two Thunderbird organizations.
·
A general discussion was held about
ways to increase our membership and some ideas from the group were:
o
Create a new “position” for the purpose of recruiting new
members
o
Add a note to our web site showing the
location of our next meeting
o
Take info to other car shows, such as
an envelope with an application, pictures, business cards, etc.
2
·
Ron Sellers reported that he has made
initial contact with Brooks Army Medical Center to set up a date for a car show
in September to be held at the hospital for the recovering soldiers and their
families. They are very receptive to
the idea and anxious to move on the suggestion.
·
Doris Cox offered to help any of the
members who are interested in having business cards made.
·
Gene Clark reminded officers to submit
articles for the newsletter.
·
Buddy Cox asked if we ever had
advertising in our newsletter or business links from our website.
·
Let it be recorded that on January 20,
2010 Barbara Clark officially turned over the Treasurer’s duties and bank
account to Sid Sokol.
·
Current balance in the account is
$1,265.81.
·
Bob Roberts and Gene Clark attended a
local gathering of “retro” birds held in Austin last month. They talked to some of the folks about our
club.
·
A motion was made and seconded to
adjourn. Bob adjourned the meeting at 2:30 PM.
